Midwives and APCs in Abortion Care: Resources

Are you a midwife, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant (the grouping of which is commonly referred to as Advanced Practice Clinicians) looking for resources on learning abortion care during your training or providing abortion in your practice? Below is a list of resources for you, from training to advocacy! I originally included this listing on a public Twitter thread, and will work to keep this and the tweet update as more resources become available.

Already trained and want to provide?
1. Contact the Reproductive Health Access Project / look into Creating a Clinician Corps (C3)
2. Contact your local Planned Parenthood affiliate / check open positions/whether you’re willing to travel
3. Join the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and specifically join Clinicians in Abortion Care
4. Find independent clinics through the Abortion Care Network

Seeking online / in-person training?
1. Visit Midwest Access Project (MAP) which has clinical training cycles, check website
2. Attend the Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health (NSRH) annual conference in Atlanta
3. Join the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and specifically join Clinicians in Abortion Care

Unsure if you can provide? If you’re an advanced practice clinician (APC) (NPs, CM/CNMs, and PAs) depending on your state laws, you can / might be able to provide abortion! Find out more including integration into practice available in the ‘APC Toolkit’

Want to know more about the safety and quality of Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) (NPs, CM/CNMs, and PAs) who provide abortion care?
1. Read the NASEM Report “Safety and Quality of Abortion Care in the United States” for all the latest research.
2. Visit the website abortionissafe.com

And, finally and most importantly, read Steph Herold's piece in Lilith "How You Can Support Abortion Rights Today."
